
Son of West Indies great carries bat with first first-class hundred in two years
Tagenarine Chanderpaul, the son of West Indies great Shivnarine Chanderpaul, carried his bat with an unbeaten 117 during the clash between Guyana and Windward Islands in the West Indies Championship, a domestic first-class tournament.
Batting first at Coolidge, Chanderpaul top-scored for Guyana with a fighting 212-ball 69 in the first innings against Windward Islands. Only two batters from the side crossed 35 - the second being Keemo Paul, who made 64 - as Guyana were shot out for 242. They gained a slender 19-run lead when Windward Islands were bowled out for 223, with spinner Gudakesh Motie continuing his fine first-class form, picking up 4-52. Motie has now picked up 20 wickets in his last three first-class matches - all against Windward Islands in the ongoing competition. Chanderpaul makes first hundred in two years The second innings belonged to Chanderpaul, who stood tall, batting 297 balls across 99.1 overs to remain unbeaten on 117 at the end of the innings. Opening alongside Matthew Nandu, who registered his second duck of the game, Chanderpaul combined with skipper Tevin Imlach at 19-2. The duo put on 62 runs for the third wicket before the latter departed for 32. Guyana were soon 129-6, but Motie scored a crucial 53 runs in 66 balls to take his team over the 200-run mark.
