Series Overview
PSL 2026 marked the competition's most significant expansion since its founding: two new franchises — Hyderabad Kingsmen and Rawalpindi Pindiz — joined, growing the league from six to eight teams for the first time. In a remarkable debut, the Kingsmen reached the final in their very first season — beating the established franchises through the tournament before arriving at Gaddafi Stadium for the title match against Peshawar Zalmi on May 3. Peshawar, captained by Babar Azam, proved too strong. Australian all-rounder Aaron Hardie produced a standout final performance — taking 4/27 with the ball to restrict Kingsmen to 129 all out, then anchoring Zalmi's chase with an unbeaten 56 off 39 balls to seal a five-wicket win. For the Kingsmen, the final appearance in their debut season hinted at the franchise's long-term potential. Rawalpindi Pindiz, the other new franchise, brought PSL cricket to the stadium synonymous with Pakistan's Test match cricket. PSL 2026's eight-team format, played across Karachi and Lahore over 44 matches between March 26 and May 3, generated record viewership.
