About the Bangladesh Premier League

The Bangladesh Premier League (BPL)is Bangladesh's premier T20 franchise cricket competition, founded by the Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB). The inaugural edition was held in 2012, and the league has grown into one of Asia's most significant domestic T20 competitions, attracting top international talent alongside Bangladesh's best home-grown players.

The BPL runs in the December–January window, offering six franchises representing Bangladesh's major cricket centres the chance to compete for the title. The league has been the launching pad for multiple Bangladesh internationals who went on to star on the global stage, including Shakib Al Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman, and Mahmudullah.

Comilla Victoriansare the BPL's most successful franchise with four titles, while Rajshahi Warriors are the reigning 2025-26 champions. The league features a quota system ensuring Bangladesh domestic talent remains at the heart of each franchise, while overseas slots attract IPL, PSL, and Big Bash-quality players.

About the BPL Format

Tournament Format

Six franchises play a double round-robin group stage followed by playoffs. The top four teams qualify for the knockout rounds — Qualifier 1, Eliminator, Qualifier 2, and Final — over 5–6 weeks.

Venues

Most BPL matches are hosted at Sher-e-Bangla National Stadium in Mirpur, Dhaka. Zahur Ahmed Chowdhury Stadium in Chattogram and Sylhet International Stadium also host multiple-match blocks each season.

Player Mix

Each BPL team features Bangladesh internationals alongside a quota of overseas T20 specialists. The league has attracted players from IPL, PSL, and Big Bash rosters.

Season Window

The BPL runs in the December–January window — a slot confirmed by the ICC's Future Tours Programme. This avoids direct competition with IPL (March–May) and PSL (February–March).
