ICC Confirms Expanded WTC Schedule for 2025–27 Cycle
Every Test nation will be guaranteed a minimum of 12 home and 12 away matches as the ICC overhauls the World Test Championship points system.
The International Cricket Council has confirmed a significant expansion of the World Test Championship for the 2025–27 cycle, guaranteeing every full member at least 24 Test matches over the two-year period.
The announcement, made at the ICC's quarterly board meeting, also introduces a revised points system that rewards victories with 12 points and draws with 4, while eliminating the percentage-based qualification metric that frustrated fans in the previous two cycles.
"We've listened to the feedback," said ICC Chief Executive Geoff Allardice. "The new structure is simpler, fairer, and ensures every Test series has genuine WTC relevance from the opening day."
Under the new framework, India, England, and Australia will play 16 matches each — the most of any nation — reflecting their commercial and competitive significance. Smaller nations like Ireland and Zimbabwe will play a minimum of 12, up from eight in the previous cycle.
The 2025–27 WTC Final is scheduled for Lord's Cricket Ground in June 2027.
